I think today's XKCD was brilliant. And Coilhouse continues to rock my world. A while ago they linked to We Love Hijab, a muslim fashion blog. It's absolutely fascinating from an outsider's point of view (especially the discussion posts), a prime example of why love being an internet lurker. And there are some beautiful outfits there: 1, 2, 3, 4 (STFU IT'S AWESOME) - funnily enough, all of these are more flattering to the female form than the oh-so-trendy skinny pants + sack-like 'tunic' look of the moment.
This is where I talk about my online Harry Potter community! But since half of my flist are members too, I don't think anyone will mind.
We're discussing house traits/sorting over at
hogwarts_elite. I wanted to read what I had said about the houses in my application (which was written between July and September 2006). Since it was more amusing than I remembered, I ended up reading the whole thing and now I'll share some lultastic bits for posterity.
THE GOOD (aka 'I'm so wicked smaht')
3. Who is your least favourite character in the series?
...there are many things that could have been used to flesh-out [Dumbledore's] character more – the whole Grindelwald business, for example, or his family background. So unless Harry finds out more about Dumbledore in the final book, I’m going to claim that JKR didn’t fully exploit the character’s potential.
...
It seems to me that Dumbledore was always mainly concerned about pushing his own agenda, and failed to observe the effects this behaviour actually had on the people around him.
And then I read DH and was all *clapclapclap*
THE BAD (aka MOST AMAZING HP THEORY EVER)
I think that when wizards count clockwise and counterclockwise stirs, they’re approximating irrational numbers, depending on the viscosity of the liquid.
*dies* This was something I came up with when I had to write Snape's notes for the SS/RL library smut comic of doom (which I really should finish some day). I remember I thought people in H_E would be serious *~elitists~* with sticks up their arses who spend their time discussing HP in the light of different literary theories and stuff. So I put this in to A) make myself seem smarter than I am and B) make everyone so curious that they'd have to let me join. Then I was deeply disappointed when no one asked me anything about it.
I still think it might be true. :D
THE UGLY
Most of my friendships exist because I find those people interesting or admirable and think I can learn something from them.
I can't believe no one called me on the Claw push. Although the Idiot's Guide to Sorting was written right after I was sorted, and it contains the line "Likewise, replying to votes with the house you wish to be in will be considered pushing for that particular house." Which I did, and I knew it was blatant, but I was on an emotional high! I couldn't help it! Anyway, I've always wondered if that sentence was prompted by me.

It was so odd to read the app. It's only been a year and a half, and my opinions haven't changed that much. Still, the tone of my writing, and the person I present myself as, seem totally strange. I actually think I've become more Clawish through spending time with H_E Claws. I remember my first Ravenchat, when people were mostly posting links to youtube videos (like this and this) and I sat there thinking 'Guys, we're so off topic! In fact, what is the topic?' NOW I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW AWESOME THEY ARE.
Which I suppose is a long-winded way of saying that I appreciate what you've done to me. &cookiehearts; And I meant to ask if anyone else feels the same about their H_E house?
ETA: Oh, and I also meant to post comment on the coolness of Neil Gaiman's opinions on not paying for books.
Gahh, I hate editing this entry cause every time I do so my tag disappears.
